Since by following my route you have avoided a hundred dollars (or more) in tolls, paying just this next one is not so bad. But, there is a well marked ‘libre’ if you so desire.

After all these days of driving you deserve a break.

My two favorite Tepic Hotels are across the street from each other.

The Hotel Ne-Kie is beautiful. At almost a $100USD a night it should be. The service is very good and if they ever get real maintenance together, this architecturally superb structure will be a true 4 Star Hotel. One of the desk clerks is a former Miss Nayarit. Since they are all beautiful; if you can choose the correct sinorita without help, I’ll buy you a drink. Hotel Ne-Kie

The Hotel Mission St. Thomas starting at 150 pesos, just renovated, kept very clean, new television with cable and remote, unlimited hot water, daily maid service and exceptional owners makes it a much better deal. Yeah, and the wife of the owner could have been a Miss Nayarit. Wonderful people and good friends.

YO! And, with the Hotel Ne-Kie being a 2 minute walk across the street with their gorgeous lounge and without a doubt the best breakfast in Tepic. I stay at the St. Thomas and play at the Ne-Kie…………………(I’m so cheap I reuse toothpicks.)

Shortly after paying the toll (or returning to the 4-lane off the libre), take the first major exit to ‘Centro’ Tepic on Avenue Insurrentes. Just stay on this major thoroughfare straight thru Tepic following the signs to Guadalajara. Past Wallmart, Office Despot and Bugger King. Hotel Ne-Kie on your left with St. Thomas on the right.

Best breakfast at the Ne-Kie, but the lunch and dinner menus leave much to be desired. Avoid the restaurant adjacent to the St. Thomas but the Steak House across the street is exceptional.

The American Bathroom and Bar in Tepic….My small antique motor home does not have a shower and when in Tepic I often just spend the night in a location central to the next days business. Consequently the American Banos is a true Godsend.

Located on Jesus Garcia just a short block from the Train Station, it is easy to find and the steam bath, high-pressure hot water and a bar makes this combo' truly a blessing.

YO! Ya know, with all the laws the US Government passes anally, I mean annually, wouldn't it be fun to slip a new Federal law into the books that mandates that all public bathrooms must contain a bar; got my vote.

I just had a terrible thought….I have never seen any women?????????MEN ONLY??

Yo! If you really do come to Tepic; please don’t tell anyone else. I do so Love being able to walk in a major Mexican State Capitol City for days without seeing another gringo.

The best Dinner Restaurant in Tepic is Roberto's. But, my favorite is still the Candilejas. Another excellent choice is the Quetzalcoatl, with a superb vegetarian fare.

The best bar is the one your in……..Or maybe it’s the one across the street.

There is never any need to drive your car in Tepic after your arrival. Somehow, the Taxi is less than $2 dollars anywhere in the city. Call Benjamin at 044-311-267-3417 (English Spoken).

In Tepic you can visit places such as:

  • The Cathedral of the Purisima Concepcion de Maria, built in the XVIII century, with neo-Gothic portals and towers.
  • The Temple of the Cruz de Zacate, built in the XVI century, it was a Franciscan convent and now houses the Tourism Direction of the State.
  • The Government Palace, built in the XIX century.
  • The Amado Nervo Museum, where the poet was born in 1870, and displays photographs, manuscripts and personal documents.
  • The Regional Museum of Anthropology and History, which exhibits interesting collections of archaeology, Coran and Huichol ethnography and Colonial paintings.
  • The House of the Culture, with murals painted by Jose Meza.
  • The Central Park, which has fountains, a kiosk, and a library and much more.
  • The University of Nayarit
  • The Paseo de la Loma Recreational Center
  • An arena for Charros shows (horsemen)
The main celebrations in Tepic City are:
  • The Carnival Festivities, with a parade of floats, popular dances and fire-works
  • The Patriotic Festivities, from September 13th to 16th
  • Yo! Many other Fiestas abound. Christmas is quite wonderful.
The Bus from Tepic to Agua Milpa
There is a bus to the lake just around the corner from the downtown Tepic Bus Station. On Zacatecas Nte between Guadalupe Victoria Ote and Nicolas Bravo Ote you will see a small sign –exclusivo sitio Agua Milpa- just in front of Loncheria "Ade".
